THE SYNTHOME NETWORK

Every connection keeps its evidence.

Resources connect to topics, publishers, and proposed course weeks. The graph stays useful because each node and arc carries an ID, review status, and provenance.

DATA MODEL

Four public node types

Resource

A submitted link with a title, summary, format, topics, and proposed weeks.

Topic

A subject label that groups related resources.

Publisher

The publisher name supplied with a resource.

Week

A proposed placement from Week 1 through Week 6.

Three directed arc types

resourceCLASSIFIED_AS →topic
resourcePUBLISHED_BY →publisher
resourcePROPOSED_FOR →week

Use stable node and arc IDs when you need a reproducible reference. Direction matters: every public classification starts at a resource.

NETWORK SCIENCE

Structure gives the map its shape.

Python NetworkX computes the map from all public arcs. Community colors group densely connected nodes using Louvain modularity. A seeded, three-dimensional ForceAtlas2 layout places connected nodes together. The same saved analysis powers the browser and MCP.

Color · community

A computed neighborhood based on connectivity. Communities can cross subject and node-type boundaries.

Size · prominence

Choose PageRank, degree, or betweenness. Bigger means more structural prominence under that measure, never higher quality.

Shape · node type

Circles are resources, diamonds are topics, squares are publishers, and triangles are proposed weeks.

Focus · one or two hops

Inspect direct neighbors or expand one step further. The sidebar lists every incident arc in pages.

The analytic projection treats arcs as undirected, with topic, publisher and proposed-week attraction weights of 1, 0.35 and 0.2. These are explicit design choices, not confidence scores. Exact betweenness uses unweighted shortest paths; directed source assertions remain unchanged.

Metrics describe the full published graph, even when you filter the view. Focus pages arrange up to twelve actual arcs radially to keep their labels readable; the full-network view uses ForceAtlas2. Layout coordinates are an exploratory visualization, not semantic distances. Pending classifications and broad course-week hubs influence the results.

ONTOLOGY AND LAYERS

Every predicate has a defined meaning.

The machine-readable ontology declares node types, allowed source and target types, relationship direction, inverse reading labels, and interpretation limits. It is a lightweight property graph schema. Topic labels are a vocabulary; the source does not yet supply a broader/narrower taxonomy or formal logical inference rules.

  • CLASSIFIED_AS means a submitted subject association. It does not assert class membership or a prerequisite.
  • PUBLISHED_BY records the supplied publisher attribution. It does not assert authorship or verified legal identity.
  • PROPOSED_FOR records a suggested week. It does not approve a sequence or learning outcome.

The Layers view separates four node types spatially while preserving the same cross-layer arcs. Community detection adds computed annotations; it never creates “teaches,” “requires,” “same as,” or causal claims. In the overview, inspect arc labels on hover; focused views and the complete relationship list retain the predicate and its direction.

Optional Neo4j Aura mirror

Aura can make persistent graph queries and future editing easier. The current graph and analysis work without a database. Download the Neo4j import script and follow the Aura setup guide to create an optional mirror. The live app still reads its versioned Git snapshot.

EVIDENCE

Pending means pending.

The graph preserves submitted classifications without turning them into verified facts. A pending review status means a human has not accepted the classification as reviewed course content.

  • Verification says whether the URL and source content were freshly checked.
  • Staleness preserves the submitter’s age or product-change warning. No flag does not prove currency.
  • Provenance records the batch, source file, row, field, and review scope.
Public responses exclude instructor notes, quizzes, answer material, prompts, templates, and administrative course fields.

SOURCE OF TRUTH

Versioned in GitHub, served by Vercel.

The private Synthminds/Synthome repository is the durable record. It stores the exact CSV attachments, hashes, normalized graph, code, and documentation. Each deployment serves a sanitized public projection from one commit.

This release uses that Git snapshot directly. PostgreSQL support remains ready for a future proposal workflow; if a database is configured, a database failure is visible and never replaced by a different snapshot.

PUBLIC API

Read the same graph in pages.

GET /api/library returns counts, a revision hash, and the page size. Fetch nodes, edges, or submissions with the returned revision. Pages hold at most 100 records, so clients cannot mix releases accidentally.

GET /api/library?section=nodes&offset=0&revision=<revision>
GET /api/library?format=nodes.csv
GET /api/library?format=arcs.csv

The API accepts GET and HEAD only.

MODEL CONTEXT PROTOCOL

Connect ChatGPT to Synthome.

MCP endpointhttps://synthome.app/mcp

Custom MCP app setup currently requires ChatGPT on the web.

  1. An admin or owner enables connected-data developer mode under Workspace Settings → Permissions & Roles → Connected Data.
  2. Enable it for your account under Settings → Apps → Advanced Settings, or begin at Workspace Settings → Apps → Create.
  3. Under Apps → Create, name the app Synthome, enter the endpoint above, and choose no authentication.
  4. Select Scan Tools, verify the six read-only actions, create the app, then choose the Synthome draft app in a new chat.

Labels and availability vary by plan, role, and workspace policy. Follow OpenAI’s current setup guide if your workspace differs.

WEEK 6 ROADMAP

Student submissions need identity and review.

Write tools remain off. A later proposal service needs verified sign-in, OAuth-compatible authorization, idempotency, private queues, moderation, and instructor approval before a submission enters the published graph.
